Phoenix to 'adopt' city hit by tsunami
Phoenix to 'adopt' city hit by tsunami: "Phoenix officials have wanted to help with tsunami relief efforts since first hearing of the disaster. But they wanted to do more than send a check.
That's why the city is partnering with the nonprofit Food for the Hungry to adopt the northwest Indonesia village of Meulaboh. They plan a long-term relief and rebuilding project for the area, which lost a third of its 120,000 residents to the water.
Mayor Phil Gordon said he believes the effort is the first of its kind by a city."
