America West traffic figures reach record levels for 2004 - 2005-01-06 - The Business Journal of Phoenix: America West traffic figures reach record levels for 2004 America West Airlines posted record traffic figures for December, the fourth quarter 2004 and for the full year. According to a report released late Wednesday, the Tempe-based airline's revenue passenger miles (RPM) were a record 1.9 billion last month, up 8 percent from 2003 levels. Each revenue passenger mile equals one paying passenger flown one mile. Capacity was a record 2.6 billion available seat miles (ASM), a 7 percent improvement. December load factor, or the percentage of seats filled, increased slightly to 75.4 percent from 74.7 percent a year ago. "December marks our sixth consecutive month of record load factors," said Scott Kirby, executive vice president, sales and marketing. "This is noteworthy especially in light of the fact that the Thanksgiving weekend return-travel date occurred in November this year as opposed to 2003 when it fell in December." Thursday, Dec. 23 was the third-largest travel day in America West history, airline officials said.
