Tempe votes to condemn site- "Our community is not in the pocket of developers to do this," Tempe Mayor Hugh Hallman said.

Should condemnation be used to transfer property from private landholders to private landholders? Tempe says yes.
Tempe votes to condemn site: TEMPE - Tempe City Council members voted unanimously Thursday night to condemn property on the future site of a $200 million outdoor mall project. City officials will begin sending final notices to about 15 property owners who haven't sold their land to developer Miravista Holdings. If property owners fail to deal with the developer, the city will file lawsuits to condemn the properties. "Our community is not in the pocket of developers to do this," Tempe Mayor Hugh Hallman said. "It's necessary and essential that all these properties be acquired."
