Race's impact runs a long way

Race's impact runs a long way: So much for having to wait for a long-term financial plan to kick in. The incredible success of the P.F. Chang's Rock 'n' Roll Arizona Marathon & ½ Marathon, which last year poured millions of dollars into the Valley, is expected to put organizer Elite Racing Inc. of San Diego back in the black in just the race's second year. "Last year we ended up losing $312,000, and this year we are going to make a profit," said Tim Murphy, president of the 70-employee Elite. "We won't get back our first-year investment, but we are very, very pleased. . . . Last year, there were several things that could be vastly improved upon and we made those improvements."
