Audit critical of regulation of Arizona's nursing home officials

Casa Grande Valley Newspapers Inc.: "PHOENIX - The state board that regulates administrators and managers of nursing homes and assisted living facilities is slow to investigate complaints, often allowing cases to go unresolved for years while the person investigated continues to work, auditors reported Thursday. The Legislature during its 2004 session ordered an audit of the Board of Examiners of Nursing Care Institution Administrators and Assisted Living Facility Managers. It also extended its authorization to operate for one year. Lawmakers took those steps when Gov. Janet Napolitano vetoed a bill to give the board a 10-year reauthorization after The Tribune, a newspaper which serves suburban Phoenix, reported problems within the agency."
