DPS choice exits: "Gov. Janet Napolitano's widely praised pick to head the state Department of Public Safety unexpectedly withdrew his name Wednesday, choosing to stay in his current job as U.S. marshal for Arizona. David Gonzales, a Flagstaff native who started his police career as a beat cop, said his decision came down to 'timing.' 'We just had a disagreement over timing on when to show up for work,' said Gonzales, a registered Republican. 'I think it's best just to bow out. I think they want someone over there right away, which I can understand.' "
