BIA superintendent bumped after disputes with Tribal Council
WMICentral: "WHITERIVER - Fort Apache Agency Superintendent Ben Nuvamsa was notified Dec. 13 of his transfer to another Bureau of Indian Affairs agency in Pima.
Nuvamsa has been the BIA superintendent in Whiteriver for 16 years, but has had differences with the present tribal administration over federal '638 contracts and other financial matters. The '638 contracts involve federal funding that is managed by tribal entities.
Nuvamsa alleges the tribe owes the federal government more than $13 million, $9.4 million to the BIA."
